2. Eastern Quarter and Basin
   This residential quarter is designed to take advantage of the surrounding water, through the existing lock and the new canal with its integral basin.The basin acts as a new water square, providing an amenity that is also a buffer to the commercial buildings. There is
   a small square in front of the buildings, children’s play space, a long accessible

waterfront and immediate access to the community park. This quarter will be virtually car free, with emergency and service vehicles only allowed to pass through and acrossthe vehicle bridge that connects to the commercial quarter. Pedestrian access from the West can be from any of three bridges across the canal that provides links to the commercial quarter, high street and Canary Wharf beyond.
